Water authorities have introduced water saving measures in Zadar following a prolonged period of dry weather and increased summer consumption, warning that water levels at the area’s pumping station are approaching the minimum permitted levels.
The utility company said the measures are necessary to preserve the stability of the public water supply system and ensure sufficient drinking water remains available for households, healthcare facilities and other essential services.
Water saving measures in Zadar target non-essential use
The water utility is asking residents, visitors and businesses to significantly reduce unnecessary water consumption until further notice.
The recommendations include reducing the irrigation of public and private green areas, including football pitches, avoiding washing cars and boats, limiting the frequent filling of swimming pools, and avoiding unnecessary use of public water facilities such as beach showers and taps.
Although the company acknowledged the importance of maintaining green spaces during the tourist season, it said protecting the drinking water supply must take priority under the current conditions.
Measures remain in place until further notice
The utility stressed that the water saving measures in Zadar were introduced because of the combination of prolonged drought and exceptionally high seasonal demand, which has placed additional pressure on the water supply system.
At this stage, the company has not announced water restrictions or interruptions to the water supply. Instead, residents, visitors and businesses are being asked to use water responsibly to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
The water saving measures in Zadar will remain in force until further notice, and the utility said consumers would be informed immediately when they are lifted.
