Visitors planning a trip to Croatia’s most famous national park can once again use card payments as normal after last week’s Plitvice Lakes cyber attack temporarily disrupted payment systems and some visitor services.
Plitvice Lakes National Park confirmed that all accommodation and catering facilities are now operating normally, while card payments have been fully restored at all sales points, including ticket offices.
Visitors can once again purchase entrance tickets and pay by card in the usual way.
Temporary disruption after cyber incident
The national park first announced the cyber incident on 24 June, saying it had detected a security breach that required an immediate response.
According to the park, the relevant Croatian authorities were notified immediately. Security protocols were activated to reduce the possible impact of the attack, while a detailed investigation began in cooperation with specialised cybersecurity experts.
Although some operations were temporarily affected for precautionary reasons, Plitvice Lakes remained open to visitors throughout the disruption. Entrance tickets were still available and the park also provided free water and refreshments at points near the lakes to help visitors during the summer heat.
Some hospitality facilities continued operating where possible, while the park worked to restore normal services.
Investigation into Plitvice Lakes cyber attack still ongoing
The park says the investigation is continuing and that it is still too early to determine the financial impact of the incident or whether any data may have been compromised.
In its latest update, Plitvice Lakes confirmed that all accommodation facilities, restaurants, cafés and ticket offices had returned to normal operation. Card payments have also been fully restored at all sales points, including ticket offices.
“The protection of our visitors’, partners’ and employees’ data remains our highest priority,” the park said, adding that additional preventive security measures continue to be implemented to strengthen the resilience of its IT systems.
