A fire on Brač that broke out on Thursday at the Košer municipal waste disposal site near Pučišća remains active, according to the Croatian Firefighting Association.
Fire on Brač still active
The fire on Brač was reported at 12:09 pm on 30 July. A total of 17 firefighters with seven fire engines from the volunteer fire departments of Supetar, Selca, Bol and Pučišća, together with personnel from the regular seasonal firefighting units based in Supetar, Selca and Bol, have been deployed to the scene.
Firefighters remained at the site throughout the night, continuing efforts to bring the fire under control. According to the latest report from the State Firefighting Operations Centre 193, the fire on Brač has not yet been extinguished.
Three Air Tractors deployed to wildfire near Zemunik
A wildfire broke out near Zemunik in Zadar County on 30 July, burning six hectares of grass, low vegetation and scrubland. The fire was tackled by 16 firefighters with five vehicles from the Zadar Public Fire Brigade, the Zadar Volunteer Fire Department and the Sukošan Volunteer Fire Department.
Three Air Tractor firefighting aircraft also took part in the operation, including one redirected from a fire in Šibenik-Knin County. The fire was brought under control at 7:53 pm and fully extinguished at 11:31 pm.
Wildfire near Sedramić extinguished after Air Tractor intervention
A second wildfire was reported near Sedramić, in the Elezi area of Šibenik-Knin County, shortly after 6 pm on 30 July. The fire burned one hectare of grass, low vegetation and scrubland.
Nine firefighters with three vehicles from the Drniš Public Fire Brigade and the Drniš and Unešić volunteer fire departments took part in the response. An Air Tractor aircraft was redirected from a training flight and made one water drop over the fire. The blaze was extinguished at 7:36 pm.
Croatia records 118 firefighting interventions in 24 hours
Between 7:00 am on 30 July and 7:00 am on 31 July, firefighters across Croatia responded to a total of 118 incidents. The operations involved 530 firefighters, 184 fire engines and three firefighting aircraft.
The total area affected by fire during the reporting period was 26 hectares.
The wildfires near Zemunik, Sedramić and Dalj have all been extinguished. However, according to the latest available information, the fire at the municipal waste disposal site on Brač remains active.
Firefighters issue warning as heatwave increases wildfire risk
The Croatian Firefighting Association has also called on the public to exercise increased caution as Croatia remains affected by a strong heatwave, prolonged dry conditions and a heightened risk of wildfires.
Chief Fire Commander Slavko Tucaković warned that even a small ignition source could cause a fire with serious consequences. Residents and visitors are being urged to avoid lighting fires outdoors, burning plant waste, using open flames or carrying out activities that could create sparks. Cigarette butts, glass and other objects that could contribute to a fire should not be discarded in the environment.
Firefighting units across Croatia remain on full alert. Anyone who notices smoke, fire or another immediate danger should contact firefighters on 193 or the emergency centre on 112 without delay.
