Croatia Traffic Update for September 10, 2026
Heavy rain, strong bura and roadworks may disrupt travel across Croatia
Heavy rain in the Rijeka area and parts of Istria, Lika and Gorski Kotar may cause difficult driving conditions and localised flooding on Thursday. Roads are wet and slippery in places, while landslides are also possible.
HAK advises drivers to reduce their speed, avoid sudden braking and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Strong showers may temporarily reduce visibility, while bora winds could bring restrictions for some vehicle categories along the Adriatic Highway and in the wider Rijeka area.
Drivers should also take extra care near schools and kindergartens following the start of the new school year. The speed limit around these areas is 40 km/h.
Overnight closures on the A1 motorway
Sections of the A1 motorway between the Danilo and Prgomet junctions and between Prgomet and Split will be closed in both directions from 10 pm on September 10 until 5 am on September 11.
The two sections will be closed separately. Traffic between Danilo and Prgomet will be diverted via the DC531, DC58 and DC551 roads. Traffic between Prgomet and Split will use the DC551, DC58, DC8 and DC1 roads.
Traffic will also be stopped several times for up to 15 minutes near the Split, Vučevica and Prgomet toll stations during the night.
Delays possible on major motorways
Congestion is possible in roadwork zones on the Zagreb bypass, particularly between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb West junctions. Traffic is using narrowed lanes in both directions and delays are most likely during busy morning and afternoon periods.
Restrictions and temporary traffic controls also remain in place on sections of the A2 Zagreb–Macelj motorway and the A8 Istrian Y, including the section between the Učka Tunnel and Matulji.
Heavier traffic is expected on city roads and bypasses, the Krk Bridge and several sections of the Adriatic Highway. Short queues may also form near tunnels, rest areas and toll stations, while longer waits are possible at some border crossings.
Catamaran service suspended
Jadrolinija’s catamaran line 659 between Split, Bol, Hvar and Vis is suspended on September 10. The affected departures are the 7:30 am service from Split and the return journey from Vis at 10:10 am.
Other ferry and catamaran services may also be disrupted by unfavourable weather conditions. Passengers should check the latest sailing information before travelling.
Croatia Traffic Update for September 3, 2026
Accidents slow traffic on the A3 as delays continue near Učka and Split

Drivers should also expect slower traffic on the Zagreb bypass between Zagreb West and Lučko.
On the Istrian Y, traffic is moving slowly with occasional queues between the Učka junction and Učka Tunnel in both directions. Delays are also reported on approaches to Split and occasionally near other tourist centres along the Adriatic Highway.
Strong bora winds below Velebit could bring restrictions for certain types of vehicles on the Adriatic Highway on 4 September. Heavier traffic is expected around major cities and bypasses, on the A2 and A4 approaches to Zagreb, the Zagreb and Rijeka bypasses, the Istrian Y, Krk Bridge and several sections of the Adriatic Highway.
Shorter delays are also possible around tunnels, rest areas, toll stations and roadworks, including on the DC1 near Otrić. Border crossings may become busy, with longer waits possible for both passenger and freight traffic. No significant disruption is expected in maritime transport.
