Croatia Traffic Update for August 21, 2026
Heavy traffic, border delays and ferry disruptions ahead of Saturday
Roads are wet and slippery in parts of Croatia on Friday morning, while heavier traffic and delays are being reported on several major routes and approaches to coastal destinations.
Drivers are advised to adjust their speed to road conditions, particularly after rain and in areas where roadworks are underway.
Traffic delays on A2, A3, Krk Bridge, DC8 and DC1
Traffic is heavier on several important routes across Croatia, according to HAK’s latest Croatia traffic update.
While no major delays are currently reported on the A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik motorway, heavier traffic is expected there as the weekend travel period begins.
On the A2 Zagreb–Macelj motorway, a queue of around 500 metres has formed before the Zagreb Zapad interchange in the direction of Zagreb.
On the A3 motorway, intermittent delays are reported in the roadworks zone between Sveta Nedelja and Lučko in both directions. This section is operating under a temporary traffic regime, with narrowed lanes, and congestion is more likely during periods of heavier traffic.
Traffic is also heavy on the Krk Bridge, with a queue towards the mainland extending from the area of Njivice.
On the DC8 Adriatic Highway, delays are reported on approaches to Split. Drivers should also expect temporary traffic regulations on some sections due to ongoing roadworks.
Delays are possible on the DC1 between Gračac and Knin, particularly around Otrić, where roadworks are underway.
Roadworks that could affect summer travel
Drivers travelling through Istria should allow additional time on the A8/A9 Istrian Y, where construction of the full motorway profile continues. Traffic is running on narrowed lanes in several sections, including the area between the Učka Tunnel and Matulji, where temporary interruptions are also possible.
On the A3 near Zagreb, extensive roadworks between Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb Zapad remain in place. Traffic is running on narrowed lanes in both directions, and queues can develop during morning and afternoon peak periods and throughout busy weekends.
On the Adriatic Highway near Kaštel Kambelovac, traffic is operating under temporary regulation following a rockfall.
The DC547 Sveti Rok–Jasenice road, known as Majstorska cesta, remains closed to all traffic due to road damage.
Border crossing waiting times
Travellers entering Croatia from Bosnia and Herzegovina are currently facing a wait of around one hour at Gornji Varoš/Gradiška. Waiting times of up to 30 minutes are reported at Nova Sela, Slavonski Brod/Bosanski Brod and Metković/Doljani.
At the Bajakovo/Batrovci crossing between Serbia and Croatia, the wait to enter Croatia is around one hour and 30 minutes.
Waiting times can change quickly during the summer travel period, particularly later in the day and at weekends.
Ferry and catamaran services disrupted by weather
Unfavourable weather conditions have caused disruptions to several ferry and catamaran services on the Adriatic.
The Split–Bol–Hvar–Vis, Zadar–Pula and Kraljevica–Crikvenica–Senj–Baška–Lopar–Rab–Lun catamaran services are currently suspended.
Ferry services on the Šibenik–Zlarin–Obonjan–Kaprije–Žirje and Zadar/Gaženica–Ist/Kosirača–Olib–Silba–Premuda–Mali Lošinj routes are also suspended.
Passengers travelling to the islands should check the latest status of their service before heading to the port.
Croatia traffic forecast for Saturday, August 22
Heavy summer traffic is expected across Croatia on Saturday, August 22, with increased traffic both towards the Adriatic coast and back towards inland Croatia.
During the first part of the day, roads in inland Croatia may remain wet and slippery. Drivers travelling through mountainous areas should also be aware of an increased risk of rockfalls.
Some of the most significant congestion is expected on the A3 Zagreb bypass, particularly from the Buzin and Zagreb Zapad interchanges towards the Lučko toll station.
Heavy traffic and possible queues are also expected on the A1 Zagreb–Split–Dubrovnik motorway, especially between Lučko and Bosiljevo. Delays may develop around toll stations, tunnels, motorway service areas and roadworks zones.
Drivers should also prepare for heavier traffic on the Rijeka bypass, the Istrian Y, Krk Bridge and roads across the island of Krk, as well as on approaches to popular coastal destinations.
Increased passenger traffic is expected at some border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, where longer waiting times may develop during peak travel periods.
Travellers heading to or from the Croatian coast on Saturday should allow extra time for their journey, particularly around Zagreb, on the A1 and on major approaches to the coast.
Croatia Traffic Update for August 19, 2026
Delays on A1, A3 and roads around Split
Traffic is generally moving without major disruption across Croatia, although delays are reported in several areas due to roadworks, breakdowns and increased traffic near major tourist destinations.
A1 motorway traffic update
In its latest Croatia traffic updates, the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) warns of several disruptions on major routes. On the A1 Zagreb–Split–Dubrovnik motorway, a broken-down truck is affecting traffic between the Novigrad and Bosiljevo 1 junctions in the direction of Dubrovnik, with a temporary speed limit of 80 km/h.
Another broken-down vehicle has been reported between the Bristovac and Ledenik tunnels in the direction of Zagreb.
Delays around Split and on the Adriatic Highway
Traffic is heavier on roads approaching Split.
On the Adriatic Highway (DC8), traffic between Trsteno and Slano near Ratac is operating in alternating directions on a single lane following a traffic accident.
Temporary traffic regulations are also in place on several sections of the DC8 due to roadworks. In Kaštel Kambelovac, traffic is regulated because of a rockfall.
Krk Bridge and Rijeka area
Queues have formed in both directions between the Šmrika roundabout and Omišalj on Krk.
Traffic through the Tuhobić Tunnel on the A6 Rijeka–Zagreb motorway has been temporarily suspended due to a broken-down truck.
Roadworks causing delays
Intermittent congestion is reported on the A3 between the Sveta Nedelja and Lučko junctions due to ongoing roadworks.
Drivers travelling through Istria should also expect temporary traffic regulations on the Istrian Y (A8), particularly in the construction zone between the Učka Tunnel and Matulji.
Borders and ferry traffic
There are currently no major waiting times reported at Croatia’s border crossings.
Ferry and other maritime traffic is operating without significant disruption.
Croatia traffic forecast for August 20
Heavier traffic is expected on Thursday, August 20, on city roads and bypasses as well as on some sections of Croatia’s motorways, particularly during the morning and afternoon.
Roads may be wet and slippery in parts of the northern Adriatic and Gorski Kotar.
Possible delays are expected on the Zagreb bypass (A3), Rijeka bypass (A7), the A4 motorway between Popovec and Zagreb istok, the Istrian Y (A8) between the Učka junction and Učka Tunnel, sections of the DC1 state road and the Adriatic Highway (DC8) approaching major tourist destinations.
Waiting times are possible at some border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro.
No significant disruption is expected in ferry and other maritime traffic.
