Canadian police have issued special guidance for Croatia fans in Toronto on how to behave in public spaces before and after the Panama vs Croatia World Cup match.
Alcohol consumption
- Drinking alcohol in public places is restricted. Alcoholic beverages must not be consumed from their original, clearly labelled containers.
- Alcohol may only be consumed in public if it has been transferred into an unlabelled, non-transparent container, such as a plastic bottle or an opaque aluminium flask without branding.
- Alcohol consumption is permitted in bars, restaurants and their outdoor terraces, as well as in fan zones, around the stadium and inside the stadium, including in the stands, provided the beverage was purchased within the fan zone or stadium grounds.
- The only outdoor public area where alcohol consumption is specifically permitted for supporters is Trinity Bellwoods Park, where fans are expected to gather before travelling to the stadium.
Cigarettes, e-cigarettes and cannabis
- The use of cannabis is permitted in certain public spaces in Toronto, although it is not allowed inside the stadium.
- Smoking cigarettes and using e-cigarettes is not permitted in the seating areas of the stadium. Designated smoking areas will be available for supporters who wish to smoke or use e-cigarettes.
Pyrotechnics
- The use of pyrotechnics, including flares, rockets, firecrackers and similar devices, is strictly prohibited. Individuals found using pyrotechnics may face criminal charges.
- Anyone caught using pyrotechnics inside the stadium will be arrested, detained and fined, and could also face removal from Canada.
The advice comes just hours before a crucial match for Croatia. Following defeat to England, the Vatreni have little room for error, and the outcome against Panama could play a decisive role in determining whether Croatia advance to the knockout stage.
