Labin City Day is celebrated on August 17, following several days of cultural, sporting and music events, with the programme culminating in an evening of concerts and entertainment in the Old Town.
This year’s programme began with the traditional awards for the most beautiful balconies and gardens across Labin’s neighbourhoods. The long-running initiative is organised by the City of Labin in cooperation with local neighbourhood councils, the Labin Tourist Board and municipal company 1. Maj Labin.
Art and 190 years of Labin’s city orchestra
The cultural programme continued with the 29th Labinski uzlet likovnosti, a group exhibition bringing together artists connected to Labin through their lives, origins or work. A record 30 artists participated in this year’s edition, reinforcing Labin’s long-standing association with visual arts.
Music also played a major role in the Labin City Day celebrations. The Labin City Orchestra marked its 190th anniversary with a special concert on Titov trg on August 14. One of the longest-running wind orchestras in Istria and Croatia, it was joined by guest orchestras and musicians from Croatia and abroad for an evening programme celebrating the milestone.
Religious celebrations and traditional bocce tournament
The Feast of the Assumption on August 15 was also part of the wider Labin City Day programme, with the main Mass celebrated at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Labin’s Old Town.
The traditional Josip Ružić Memorial bocce tournament also returned after a break. The 41st edition, organised by Bocce Club Rudar 1962, brought together 12 teams competing in pairs, alongside additional bocce competitions.
Labin City Day culminates with Tony Cetinski concert
The celebrations culminate tonight as Labin’s Old Town becomes the centre of the City Day entertainment programme.
The Night Express will open the main music programme on Titov trg with a mix of Croatian and international hits, before Tony Cetinski takes over the stage with some of the best-known songs from his long career. Food and drinks will also be available on the main square throughout the evening.
Visitors looking for a heavier sound can head to Špina, where Croatian heavy metal band Keops will perform alongside Pastiri, a Bijelo Dugme tribute band.
A more relaxed programme is planned along Šetalište Kvarner, combining music with views from Labin’s historic hilltop centre.
