Croatia Weather Update for September 10, 2026
Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected, severe weather on the northern Adriatic
Central and northern Croatia will be mostly cloudy on Thursday, with periods of rain that may be locally heavy, particularly in western parts of the country.
The northern Adriatic can expect intense thunderstorms and possible severe weather, while Dalmatia will see a mixture of cloud and sunny periods. Thunderstorms are also possible, mainly in northern Dalmatia.
Winds will be light to moderate from the north and northeast. Moderate sirocco winds will prevail along much of the Adriatic, with some bora near the northern coast. Winds may temporarily become strong during thunderstorms.
According to DHMZ, daytime temperatures will range from 19 to 24°C across most of Croatia and from 25 to 30°C in Dalmatia.
Weather in Croatia tomorrow
Changeable and frequently cloudy weather will continue on Friday, with rain and thunderstorms in parts of the country. More intense storms are possible along the Adriatic and in nearby inland areas.
Light to moderate northerly and northeasterly winds are expected inland. The Adriatic will see moderate northwesterly winds, with sirocco in Dalmatia and some bora along the northern coast.
Morning temperatures will range from 13 to 17°C inland and from 19 to 24°C along the Adriatic, with slightly higher values possible in the far south. Daytime temperatures will reach between 19 and 24°C inland and from 24 to 29°C on the coast.
Croatia Weather Update for September 3, 2026
Heat alerts remain in force as strong bura affects the Adriatic
Weather in Croatia will remain mostly sunny and hot today, although conditions will not be completely stable. Isolated afternoon showers are possible in the south, with some cloud and showers also possible across northern Croatia during the evening. Temperatures will generally reach between 30°C and 35°C, with slightly cooler conditions in mountainous areas.
DHMZ has issued orange heat warnings for the Split and Dubrovnik regions, where temperatures could rise above 34°C and 33°C respectively. A yellow heat warning is in force for the Rijeka region. Older people, young children and others particularly vulnerable to high temperatures are advised to take additional care.
Yellow wind warnings are also in place for Kvarner, the Velebit Channel and parts of central and southern Dalmatia. The strongest bura is expected in the Velebit Channel, with gusts of 65 to 95 km/h. These conditions could produce waves that are dangerous for smaller boats, while some catamaran services may be disrupted.
Weather in Croatia will remain mostly sunny on Friday, with temperatures between 30°C and 34°C. Some cloud may linger across northern inland areas during the night and early morning. Bora will continue along the Adriatic during the first part of the day before giving way to south-westerly and north-westerly winds.
Wind conditions are expected to improve on Saturday, although yellow heat warnings will remain in force for the Split, Dubrovnik and Rijeka regions through the weekend.
Current sea temperatures in Croatia
The Adriatic remains warm enough for swimming, with sea temperatures mostly ranging from 25°C to 28°C on 3 September. Among the main coastal destinations, the sea measured 27.6°C in Dubrovnik, 26.8°C in Split, 26.7°C in Pula, 26°C in Šibenik and 25.7°C in Zadar.
The warmest water was recorded in Mljet’s Malo jezero at 29.5°C, followed by Veliko jezero at 29.1°C. The lowest temperature among the measured locations was 25°C in Crikvenica.
Croatia Weather Update for August 30, 2026
Heat warnings remain in place as thunderstorms and strong winds approach parts of Croatia
The weather in Croatia will remain mostly sunny and hot on Sunday, with orange heat warnings in effect for the Split and Dubrovnik regions.
According to DHMZ, some cloud will develop over inland areas during the day, with isolated afternoon showers possible mainly in Lika and inland Dalmatia. Winds will generally remain light, while moderate southeasterly and southwesterly winds are possible along parts of the Adriatic before turning northwesterly towards the evening.
Temperatures will reach between 29 and 34 °C across most of the country, although locally higher temperatures are possible in areas covered by heat warnings.
Orange heat warnings for Split and Dubrovnik
An orange heat warning is in effect for the Split region on Sunday, where maximum temperatures could exceed 35 °C and minimum temperatures remain above 26 °C. The warning will be lowered to yellow on Monday, with no warning currently issued for Tuesday.
The Dubrovnik region is also under an orange warning on Sunday due to maximum temperatures above 32 °C and minimum temperatures above 27 °C. An orange warning will remain in place on Monday, followed by a yellow warning on Tuesday.
A yellow warning is also in effect for the Rijeka region on Sunday, while the remaining regions are currently marked green.
More clouds and local showers on Monday
Monday will begin mostly sunny, but clouds will increase over inland Croatia during the afternoon, particularly in northern areas, bringing a growing chance of local showers.
The Adriatic will remain sunny, with moderate northwesterly and southwesterly winds developing around midday. Morning temperatures will range from 13 to 18 °C inland and from 21 to 26 °C along the coast, while daytime temperatures will mostly reach between 30 and 35 °C.
Yellow warnings will be in effect for the Osijek and Zagreb regions on Monday, while the Rijeka region will return to green.
Thunderstorms and strong winds possible on Tuesday
Conditions are expected to become more unsettled in parts of Croatia on Tuesday. Yellow warnings have been issued for the Osijek, Zagreb and Rijeka regions.
The Osijek region could see locally heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and temporarily strong winds, with the probability of thunderstorms above 60 per cent.
Strong bora winds are also expected along the western coast of Istria, in Kvarner and in the Velebit Channel. Gusts in the Velebit Channel could reach between 65 and 95 km/h.
Adriatic forecast for sailors
No weather warnings are in effect for the Adriatic on Sunday. Winds will generally be light and variable, with northwesterly and southwesterly winds developing around midday and during the afternoon. Southeasterly winds of up to 10 knots are possible over the southern and parts of the central Adriatic.
The sea will remain calm or slightly choppy, with visibility between 10 and 20 kilometres. Conditions will be mostly clear, although there is a slight chance of an isolated shower over the central and southern Adriatic during the afternoon.
Mostly clear and calm conditions are expected overnight, with light variable winds and a calm or slightly choppy sea.
Croatia Weather Update for August 26, 2026
Mostly sunny weather followed by rising temperatures and increased heatwave risk
The weather in Croatia will be predominantly sunny today, particularly along the Adriatic, while some moderate cloud cover is expected inland. A brief afternoon shower is possible mainly in the mountainous regions and inland Istria.
Winds will generally be light, with moderate northwesterly winds in eastern Croatia and along the Adriatic. Gusts may become strong around the Dalmatian islands. Daytime temperatures will mostly range from 26°C to 31°C, reaching up to 33°C in Dalmatia.
Temperatures climb to 35°C on Thursday
The weather in Croatia on Thursday will remain mostly sunny, with occasional moderate cloud cover, particularly in the morning and again towards the evening.
Morning temperatures will range from 14°C to 19°C inland and from 21°C to 26°C along the Adriatic. Daytime highs will rise noticeably, reaching between 30°C and 35°C across much of the country.
Heatwave risk increases towards the weekend
The heatwave risk will increase across Croatia from Friday. DHMZ forecasts a high heatwave risk for Osijek, Zagreb, Karlovac, Gospić, Knin, Rijeka, Split and Dubrovnik on Friday.
The risk remains high in Split on Saturday, while Dubrovnik is expected to face the most significant conditions. The heatwave risk there rises from moderate on Wednesday and Thursday to high on Friday and very high on Saturday, before dropping back to high on Sunday.
Split will also remain under a moderate heatwave risk on Thursday and Sunday.
Croatia Weather Update for August 24, 2026
Sunny and hot across Croatia
The weather in Croatia on Monday will be sunny, very warm and hot, DHMZ reports. Winds will generally be light, with occasional moderate easterly and northeasterly winds in eastern areas. Along the Adriatic, northwesterly and southwesterly winds are expected, while a moderate bora may still affect areas below Velebit. Maximum daytime temperatures will mostly range from 28 to 33°C.
Rain and thunderstorms arriving from the west
Cloud will increase from the west on Tuesday, bringing rain and thunderstorms to some areas. Showers may be locally heavier, particularly across the northern Adriatic and Gorski kotar, before spreading to other areas during the afternoon. The far south is expected to see the least rain.
Winds will be light to moderate southwesterly, while moderate southerly and jugo winds are expected on the Adriatic. Stronger gusts are possible during thunderstorms. Morning temperatures will range from 13 to 18°C inland and 21 to 25°C on the coast, with daytime highs mostly between 25 and 30°C, and somewhat higher in eastern Croatia and Dalmatia.
Heatwave warning for Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik remains the only region under a heat warning at the beginning of the week. A high heatwave risk is in place on Monday, with maximum temperatures above 32°C and minimum temperatures above 26°C. The risk falls to moderate on Tuesday and Wednesday, although maximum temperatures are still expected to exceed 32°C.
No heatwave risk is indicated for the other monitored regions through Thursday, while DHMZ currently shows a high heatwave risk across all monitored regions on Friday, August 28.
Thunderstorms possible on the northern Adriatic
Bora gusts of 35–40 knots are possible below Velebit on Monday morning. Conditions will remain mostly clear during the day, but clouds will increase over the northern Adriatic in the evening, with local thunderstorms possible from around midnight.
Croatia Weather Update for August 21, 2026
Thunderstorms and strong winds across Croatia, hotter and drier in the south
The weather in Croatia on Friday will be partly to mostly cloudy with sunny periods, with rain in places and locally heavy thunderstorms, particularly in the northern Adriatic, Gorski Kotar and central Croatia, according to DHMZ.
The far east and south of the country will see the most sunshine, with mainly dry and hot conditions.
Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest, becoming strong at higher elevations. On the Adriatic, moderate to strong jugo and southerly winds are expected, turning abruptly to southwesterly and westerly winds in the afternoon, with storm-force gusts possible for a time.
Daytime temperatures will generally range from 27°C to 32°C, reaching around 36°C in eastern Croatia.
Weather warnings issued across Croatia
DHMZ has issued yellow weather warnings for almost all regions of Croatia on Friday, primarily due to thunderstorms and strong winds.
In the Split region, strong jugo is expected in places before abruptly turning southwesterly during the afternoon. Mean wind speeds may exceed 40 km/h.
The Rijeka region faces a risk of thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall, hail and strong winds. Gusts may exceed 65 km/h, with 40 to 70 mm of rain possible and the probability of thunderstorms above 80%.
In the Zagreb region, locally heavy thunderstorms are possible overnight and again from around midday, accompanied by temporarily strong winds. Gusts may exceed 55 km/h, with the probability of thunderstorms above 60%.
A yellow heat warning is in effect for the Dubrovnik region, where maximum temperatures are expected to exceed 32°C.
Adriatic weather warning for sailors
A warning is also in effect for the northern and central Adriatic, where thunderstorms are possible along with gusts of jugo and southwesterly winds reaching 35 to 45 knots.
A trough with a frontal disturbance is currently moving across part of the Adriatic.
During the first 12 hours, jugo and southwesterly winds of 10 to 20 knots are expected, reaching up to 24 knots in places on the central Adriatic and locally up to 28 knots on the northern Adriatic.
The sea will generally be slight to moderate, reaching moderate to rough conditions in the northern and central Adriatic. Visibility will range from 10 to 20 kilometres. Conditions will be mostly clear in the south, while the northern and central Adriatic will be partly to mostly cloudy, with rain and thunderstorms in places.
Adriatic forecast for the following 12 hours
Moderate to fresh jugo and southwesterly winds, locally strong over the central and northern Adriatic, will weaken during the night. Winds over the central and southern Adriatic will turn northwesterly and become light to moderate.
The sea will be slight to moderate, but may remain rough in places over the northern and central Adriatic.
Conditions will remain mostly clear in the south, while the northern and central Adriatic will be partly to mostly cloudy with occasional rain and thunderstorms.

The weather in Croatia on Saturday will be partly to mostly cloudy, with some rain still possible, mainly during the first part of the day in inland areas and the wider Rijeka region, according to DHMZ. Conditions are expected to become sunnier during the afternoon.
Winds will be light to moderate from the north and northeast, with northwesterly winds in eastern Croatia. On the Adriatic, moderate southwesterly and northwesterly winds are possible in places.
Morning temperatures will range from 17°C to 21°C inland and between 20°C and 25°C along the Adriatic, with even higher temperatures possible in the south.
Maximum daytime temperatures will range from 24°C to 29°C across much of the country, while eastern Croatia and Dalmatia will be warmer, with temperatures between 29°C and 34°C.

Hot weather in Croatia today, stormier Friday ahead
According to DHMZ, hot weather in Croatia will continue today, with temperatures reaching 31 to 36°C and locally even higher in the east. Most of the country will be sunny, although conditions will be less stable on the northern Adriatic and in Gorska and central Croatia, where local rain and thunderstorms are possible and may become stronger during the evening. Gusty south-westerly winds are also expected, with jugo along the coast.
Friday brings a greater risk of thunderstorms
Friday will bring more changeable and cloudy weather, with rain and stronger thunderstorms possible, particularly on the northern Adriatic and in Gorska and central Croatia. The far east and south are expected to stay sunnier and mostly dry, while daytime temperatures will fall to around 27–32°C in most areas, remaining close to 36°C in the east.

Weather in Croatia: Hot and sunny, thunderstorms possible on northern Adriatic
Croatia will remain mostly sunny and hot on Wednesday, with daytime temperatures reaching between 29 and 33°C. Winds will generally be light to moderate, while southerly winds over the Adriatic are expected to strengthen towards the end of the day.
Thursday will be hotter, with temperatures generally between 30 and 35°C. Most of the country will remain sunny, but conditions will become increasingly unstable in the north.
More cloud is expected over the northern Adriatic and Gorski kotar, where rain may develop. Locally stronger thunderstorms are possible during the late afternoon and evening.
Warning for sailors on the northern Adriatic
DHMZ has issued a warning for possible thunderstorms on the northern Adriatic on Thursday as a frontal disturbance gradually approaches from the northwest.
Southerly winds will strengthen during Wednesday evening, particularly over the central and northern Adriatic, reaching 10 to 20 knots. The sea will become slight to moderate.
During the following 12 hours, moderate to fresh jugo and southerly winds are expected, with southwesterly winds also possible over the northern Adriatic. Rain, showers and thunderstorms may develop there, initially in the far north.
Heat and changing conditions on Thursday
Thursday will bring moderate heat-health risk to central and eastern Croatia. People sensitive to weather changes may also experience discomfort associated with southerly winds.
The weather in Croatia will become increasingly unstable later on Thursday, particularly in Istria and along the northern Adriatic.
A further deterioration is expected on Friday as the frontal system approaches from the west, with unstable weather becoming more likely in western Croatia and along the northern Adriatic.
