Traffic restriction sign on a road within Dubrovnik’s special traffic zone near the Old Town

Dubrovnik Traffic Restrictions Around the Old Town Lifted From November 1

All vehicles will once again be able to pass freely through Dubrovnik’s special traffic zone around the Old Town from November 1, the City of Dubrovnik has announced.

The restrictions will be lifted at midnight between Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, when the traffic light at the entrance to the zone turns green.

Dubrovnik’s special traffic zone regulates vehicle access to the roads surrounding the historic centre to help manage congestion in one of the busiest parts of Dubrovnik. For visitors arriving by car, the change means that entry to this area will no longer be subject to the zone’s access restrictions.

Dubrovnik’s special traffic zone reduces congestion

According to the City, the traffic zone has helped ease pressure on the busiest roads and improve traffic flow around the historic centre.

Between April 1 and September 30, 2026, a total of 1,853,123 vehicle entries were recorded in Dubrovnik’s special traffic zone. That compares with 2,044,517 entries during the same period in 2025, a decrease of 191,394, or approximately 9.4%.

The figures count vehicle entries rather than individual vehicles, meaning that a vehicle entering several times is counted more than once. The City says the reduction demonstrates the positive effect of the traffic restrictions.

Park & Ride facility under construction

Dubrovnik’s special traffic zone forms part of the city’s wider efforts to reduce congestion, improve residents’ quality of life and protect the historic centre and its surroundings.

Dubrovnik Park & Ride facility is also under construction at Pobrežje. The City says the project will support this approach by helping to reduce the number of vehicles travelling into the central urban area.
