The Dubrovnik Cable Car is often presented as a must-do in Dubrovnik, but what it actually offers is quite simple. It’s a short ride from the Old Town to Mount Srđ, with views that are undeniably impressive.
But this is not a typical bucket list attraction. It’s closer to a small luxury you can choose to treat yourself to, rather than something you need to do to understand Dubrovnik.
The ride itself is brief, the elevation gain is dramatic and the real reward is the view from the top.
At the top, you can sit down for a meal with Dubrovnik spread out below you, the kind of view that makes you lose track of time.

Dubrovnik Cable Car tickets and prices
You can buy tickets directly at the cable car station, where both cash (euros) and cards are accepted. They are also available online at Dubrovnik Cable Car official website.
Adults pay €30 for a return ticket, or €17 if you go one way and plan to walk back down. Most people choose the round trip for simplicity.
For children aged 4 to 12, a return ticket costs €8, while children under 4 ride for free.
It’s not the cheapest experience in Dubrovnik, but for many visitors the view at the top is what makes it feel worth it.
What the ride is like
The Dubrovnik Cable Car departs from a station just outside the Old Town walls, near Ploče Gate. Once it starts moving, it takes around four minutes to reach the top of Mount Srđ, at 405 metres above sea level.

At the top, there’s a fort with the Panorama restaurant, a small souvenir shop, a snack bar and the Homeland War Museum.
Some visitors head straight for activities like buggy safaris or ATV tours, while others just take their time and wander around.
There are a few easy walking paths and several viewpoints looking out over Dubrovnik and the nearby islands. On particularly clear days, you can even see all the way to Italy, which feels surprisingly close from up here.
If you decide to explore on your own, just stay on marked paths and avoid any areas marked as hunting zones.
What’s at the top of Mount Srđ?
At the top of Mount Srđ, you’ll find a viewing platform, a restaurant and Fort Imperial. During peak season, the restaurant can be booked out months in advance, so plan accordingly.
If you’re interested in history, the fort also houses the Homeland War Museum, which adds a different perspective to the visit.
The main attraction, though, is the view. This is where you get that classic Dubrovnik perspective, the one you’ve probably already seen in photos, but that still feels different when you’re actually standing there.
How to get to the top of Mount Srđ without the cable car
You can walk up via a marked hiking trail, just keep in mind it can be quite demanding in the summer heat, so bring enough water.

Another option is to take a local bus to the village of Bosanka and then continue on foot for about 15 to 20 minutes along the road. Taxis and Uber are also available, but they usually end up costing more than a return cable car ticket.
There are also organised tours that include Mount Srđ along with other viewpoints and stops around Dubrovnik, such as panoramic drives combined with a guided walk through the Old Town.
Is the Dubrovnik Cable Car worth it?
Yes, but only if you approach it with the right expectations. You are paying for one of the best viewpoints in Dubrovnik, not for a complex activity.
The Dubrovnik Cable Car is simply the fastest and most scenic way to reach the top of Mount Srđ.
A simple way to decide
Mount Srđ is definitely a place worth visiting while you’re in Dubrovnik. The only question is how you want to get to the top.
The Dubrovnik Cable Car is one of the easiest options, and certainly the most scenic, but not the only one.
If you skip Srđ, you’ll miss out on beautiful views and a relaxing time in nature, but in and around Dubrovnik there are plenty of places that will make up for it.
If you do decide to take the cable car up to Srđ, try to time your ride for sunset. It’s an experience you won’t forget anytime soon.
