Dubrovnik reaches 2 million overnight stays on 16 July, achieving the milestone on the same date for the third consecutive year, the City of Dubrovnik announced, citing data from the eVisitor system.
From the beginning of the year until 16 July, the city recorded 649,789 arrivals and 2,019,148 overnight stays. According to the city administration, the results are roughly in line with those recorded during the same period in the previous two years.
The largest numbers of visitors came from the United Kingdom, the United States, Croatia, France, Germany, Poland, Ireland, Spain, Canada and Australia.
“Reaching two million overnight stays on the same date for the third year in a row confirms that Dubrovnik continues to maintain a high level of tourist demand and stable tourism activity,” the City of Dubrovnik said.
Focus on year-round tourism
The City said Dubrovnik’s tourism policy has gradually shifted over the past nine years towards a more balanced distribution of visitor numbers, a longer season and the development of tourism services throughout the year.
“This approach contributes to the development of a sustainable destination that is not focused solely on increasing the number of arrivals, but on creating long-term value for residents, the local economy and visitors,” the city administration said.
The City highlighted the Respect the City project as one of the key parts of this approach, aimed at balancing tourism development with the needs of the local community and the protection of the city’s cultural and natural heritage.
Recognition for sustainable and smart tourism
Alongside the news that Dubrovnik reaches 2 million overnight stays, the City also highlighted its international recognition in sustainable and smart tourism, including this year’s European Commission title of Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism.
According to the City, the stable number of overnight stays is the result of joint efforts by the city administration, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and other tourism-sector stakeholders.
“This result confirms the success of joint activities aimed at developing sustainable, comprehensive and year-round tourism while preserving the authenticity of Dubrovnik as a globally recognised destination,” the City of Dubrovnik concluded.
