Croatian firefighters have had little respite in recent days. The wildfire on Brač, which broke out on Thursday, was brought under control, the Croatian Firefighting Association (HVZ) reported.
Fires near Primošten and in Grabrovo, which also started on Thursday, were contained during the evening, while the wildfire on Lopud was declared extinguished. Firefighters remained on duty overnight and continued securing the affected areas.
More than 80 firefighters battled the wildfire on Brač
The largest number of firefighters was deployed to the wildfire on Brač. The fire broke out near Postira and burned through grass, low vegetation and pine forest across an estimated area of around 5.8 hectares.
A total of 73 firefighters with 21 vehicles from fire brigades across Brač took part in the operation, while additional crews arrived from the mainland during the evening.
Ground crews were supported by three Canadair aircraft and one Air Tractor. The fire was contained at 7 p.m., and 35 firefighters with ten vehicles remained at the scene overnight.
Fire near Primošten burned 4.5 hectares
Near the village of Široke, not far from Primošten, around 4.5 hectares of grass, low vegetation and pine forest were burned.
The fire was tackled by 41 firefighters with 18 vehicles, supported by two Canadair aircraft and one Air Tractor.
The fire was contained at 4:53 p.m. Six firefighters from Primošten and Rogoznica remained at the site overnight to secure the affected area.
According to county fire chief Darko Dukić, residents and residential buildings were not under threat.
Fire contained in the Grabrovo area
Another wildfire broke out on Thursday evening in the Lučetići area of Grabrovo, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
The fire affected grass, low vegetation and pine forest, while the total burned area has not yet been assessed.
A total of 20 firefighters with seven vehicles from Opatija, Lovran and Mošćenička Draga took part in the operation. The fire was contained at 9:56 p.m., after which five firefighters remained on duty to monitor and secure the area.
Lopud wildfire declared extinguished
Firefighters also completed a multi-day operation in Šunj Bay on the island of Lopud.
The wildfire, which broke out early on July 22, was contained later that same day and officially declared extinguished at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
A total of 3.75 hectares of pine forest burned on the difficult-to-access terrain.
Korčula wildfire extinguished after 11 days
The wildfire near Blato on the island of Korčula was finally declared extinguished at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, eleven days after firefighters first received the report on July 11.
