Drivers travelling across the country are advised to stay alert as the latest traffic conditions in Croatia include reports of wild animals on the motorway, heavy traffic on key routes and delays at several border crossings.
According to the Croatian Auto Club (HAK), traffic has increased on major roads, approaches to tourist destinations and at some border crossings. Drivers are urged to adjust their speed and driving to the current road conditions.
Early on Tuesday morning, the Croatian Auto Club reported that a bear had been spotted on the A1 motorway between the Krpani and Sveti Rok tunnels, on the carriageway towards Dubrovnik. According to Croatian Motorways (HAC), the warning was issued at 6:01 am, and traffic on that section was restricted to 80 km/h until the danger had passed.
Later in the day, HAK also warned of a deer on the A1 motorway near the Novigrad interchange, where traffic was moving under a 60 km/h speed limit.
Latest Traffic Conditions in Croatia
The latest traffic conditions in Croatia also include several other disruptions affecting road users:
- A 1-kilometre queue has formed on the A3 motorway approaching the roadworks between the Lučko and Zagreb West interchanges in the direction of Bregana.
- On the Krk Bridge (DC102), traffic towards the island is moving slowly due to a 4-kilometre queue stretching from the Šmrika interchange to the roundabout in Omišalj.
- Traffic has been completely suspended on the DC2 state road in Mikleuš following a traffic accident.
Anyone planning longer journeys should check the latest traffic conditions in Croatia before departure, particularly if travelling towards the coast during the peak tourist season.
Long Queues at Several Border Crossings
HAK also reported increased passenger vehicle traffic and waiting times at several border crossings, including Bajakovo, Maljevac, Metković, Nova Sela, Karasovići and Vitaljina.
Travellers heading into or out of Croatia should allow additional time, especially during the afternoon and evening.
Traffic Forecast for 5 August
Looking ahead to Wednesday, 5 August, HAK expects heavy traffic and congestion on most motorways leading towards the Adriatic coast, as well as on approaches to popular tourist destinations.
The busiest routes are expected to include the Adriatic Highway (DC8), the Solin–Klis expressway (DC1), the Krk Bridge and several other state roads.
Because Croatia will mark Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Croatian Veterans Day, a ban on heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be in force on state roads along the Adriatic coast between 2:00 pm and 11:00 pm.
Additional waiting times are also expected at the Gornji Varoš, Ličko Petrovo Selo, Svilaj, Bajakovo, Karasovići and Tovarnik border crossings.
HAK does not expect any disruptions to maritime traffic, and ferry and catamaran services are operating normally. The state ferry route 9604 Ubli (Lastovo) – Vela Luka (Korčula) – Hvar – Split and return will be operated by HSC Jadera instead of HSC Kolovare on 6 August, with departure from Ubli scheduled for 4:15 am.
With increased holiday travel continuing, motorists are encouraged to monitor the latest traffic conditions in Croatia, drive cautiously and follow all temporary traffic restrictions and speed limits.
