Jadrolinija has announced cancellations on several international routes, affecting passengers travelling by ferry from Croatia to Italy. The disruption comes after the ferry Dalmacija was taken out of service due to a technical failure.
Updated August 18, 2026: Ferry from Croatia to Italy routes cancelled until September 9
Jadrolinija has confirmed that all sailings on three international routes between Croatia and Italy have been cancelled until September 9, 2026, due to a technical problem affecting the ferry Dalmacija.
The cancellations apply to the Split–Ancona (L53), Dubrovnik–Bari (L54) and Split–Bari (L56) routes.
Passengers who have already purchased tickets for the cancelled sailings will be compensated in accordance with EU Regulation No 1177/2010, Jadrolinija said, apologising for the disruption.
Earlier report: “Dalmacija” out of service due to engine failure
The Dubrovnik–Bari international ferry service L054, scheduled to depart Dubrovnik at 11:00 on August 17, has been cancelled. Jadrolinija has advised passengers to follow its official website for further information and updates regarding the route.
According to HRT, the ferry Dalmacija is currently out of service due to a failure of the ship’s main engine. Upcoming sailings operated by the vessel are also being cancelled.
There is currently no information from Jadrolinija on when the technical problem will be repaired or when the affected international services will resume.
Ferry from Croatia to Italy affected on several routes
The disruption is not limited to the Dubrovnik–Bari route. International services between Split and Bari and Split and Ancona are also affected, as the same ferry was operating those routes.
Passengers planning to travel by ferry from Croatia to Italy are therefore advised to check the latest sailing information before heading to the port, particularly if they are due to depart from Dubrovnik or Split.
Zadar–Ancona fast ferry remains another option
Croatia also has another maritime connection with Italy from Zadar. A Zadar–Ancona fast ferry service, introduced this year, provides an additional option for passengers travelling across the Adriatic.
For now, passengers booked on a ferry from Croatia to Italy normally operated by Dalmacija should continue to monitor Jadrolinija’s official updates for information on further cancellations and the resumption of services.
Disruption comes during peak Ferragosto travel
The disruption comes at a particularly inconvenient time, with the Ferragosto holiday period bringing increased travel between Italy and Croatia.
It is also not the first interruption to Jadrolinija’s international services this season. The Split–Ancona route was suspended from early May until the beginning of July, with Jadrolinija citing increased maintenance costs and high fuel prices at the time.
