Dubrovnik is back on screens around the world, this time in the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Outer Banks. The new season premiered on August 20, bringing several familiar corners of the historic Croatian city into the final chapter of the globally popular series.
Filming in Dubrovnik began in October 2025, with the Old Town becoming one of the key settings used during production. For viewers familiar with the city, some of the Outer Banks filming locations in Dubrovnik are difficult to miss.
Dubrovnik Old Town becomes an Outer Banks set
Among the Outer Banks filming locations in Dubrovnik appearing on screen are Stradun, Luža Square, the Jesuit Steps and Sponza Palace, along with a number of streets and other locations around Dubrovnik’s historic centre.
The production also brought the show’s principal cast to the city. Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant and Drew Starkey were among the actors who spent time filming in Dubrovnik.
The City of Dubrovnik said the production further confirms the city’s position as an internationally recognised filming destination.
With its stone streets, monumental architecture and remarkably well-preserved historic centre, Dubrovnik has repeatedly proved capable of standing in for very different fictional places on screen.
Outer Banks filming locations in Dubrovnik join a long Hollywood list
Outer Banks is far from the first major international production to make use of the city.
Dubrovnik famously became King’s Landing in HBO’s Game of Thrones, a role that transformed several locations around the Old Town into instantly recognisable places for the series’ global audience.
The city also appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, when parts of Dubrovnik were transformed into the fictional casino city of Canto Bight. The 2018 film Robin Hood was another large international production filmed extensively in the city.
Dubrovnik’s connection with cinema has also received European recognition. In 2023, the European Film Academy included Stradun on its list of Treasures of European Film Culture, recognising the famous main street as a location of particular significance to European cinema.
Another boost for film tourism in Dubrovnik
The arrival of Outer Banks adds a new generation of viewers to the audiences who may first encounter Dubrovnik through film and television.
“Outer Banks thus joins a series of major international productions that have recognised Dubrovnik as a unique filming location,” the City of Dubrovnik said, adding that the popularity and global reach of the series offer another opportunity to promote the city through its culture, history, heritage and film tourism.
For fans hoping to recognise the scenery for themselves, many of the Outer Banks filming locations in Dubrovnik are not remote film sets but some of the Old Town’s best-known public landmarks. Stradun, Sponza Palace, Luža and the Jesuit Steps can all be explored on foot within the historic centre.
After Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Robin Hood, Dubrovnik now has another major international production to add to its screen history, this time as part of the final adventure of Outer Banks.

Dubrovnik was not the only Croatian destination used for the final season of Outer Banks. Other Outer Banks filming locations in Croatia included Split, Trogir, Šibenik and Omiš, with production extending across several parts of the Dalmatian coast.
