Several catamaran and boat services along the Croatian coast were suspended on Sunday, July 26, due to adverse weather conditions, the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) reported. The Croatia ferry and catamaran cancellations mainly affected the northern Adriatic, while services connecting Split with Brač, Hvar and Vis were also disrupted.
Croatia ferry and catamaran cancellations in the northern Adriatic
Jadrolinija confirmed that the following routes in the Rijeka area were suspended:
- Catamaran line 323 Kraljevica–Crikvenica–Senj–Baška–Lopar–Rab–Lun
- Catamaran line 9309 Novalja–Rab–Rijeka
- Catamaran line 9308 Mali Lošinj–Ilovik–Susak–Unije–Martinšćica–Cres–Rijeka
- Boat line 310 Mali Lošinj–Vele Srakane–Unije–Susak
HAK also reported that the Krilo–Kapetan Luka catamaran service between Pula and Zadar was suspended.
Split, Hvar, Brač and Vis services affected
In the Split area, Jadrolinija’s catamaran line 659 connecting Split, Bol, Hvar and Vis was suspended.
The cancellations apply to departures from Split at 7:30 am and 3:30 pm and return services from Vis at 10:10 am and 7:30 pm.
Jadrolinija also confirmed that the departure from Split at 1:00 pm and the return journey from Bol at 2:15 pm would not operate.
Other suspended services
Sunday’s Croatia ferry and catamaran cancellations also affected the following services:
- The 8:00 am sailing of Jadrolinija’s catamaran Jelena on line 51BB between Zadar’s Gaženica port and Ancona
- The M/B Naranča service between Dubrovnik, Pomena and Korčula
Passengers should check the latest information directly with ferry and catamaran operators before travelling, as additional changes are possible depending on weather and sea conditions.
Additional ferry departures between Zadar and Iž
Additional return sailings were introduced on ferry line 435 Zadar/Gaženica–Iž Mali/Bršanj–Rava–Rava Mala on Sunday, July 26.
The ferry is scheduled to depart from Mali Iž/Bršanj for Zadar/Gaženica at 5:45 pm.
The return service from Zadar/Gaženica to Mali Iž/Bršanj is scheduled to depart at 7:15 pm.
Strong winds and rough seas
The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service issued a marine weather warning for strong southerly and southwesterly winds, with gusts reaching between 35 and 45 knots in some areas.
Towards the end of the day, winds in the northern Adriatic were expected to temporarily turn northwesterly, while strong bura gusts were possible in parts of the central Adriatic.
The sea was forecast to be moderate to rough, possibly reaching sea state 5. Rain, showers and thunderstorms were also possible across the Adriatic.
Fog could reduce visibility to less than one kilometre in parts of the northern Adriatic during the night.
Strong jugo and southwesterly winds were expected to continue initially across the central and southern Adriatic before gradually weakening overnight. Mariners are advised to follow marine forecasts, navigation warnings and updates issued by transport operators.
Orange weather warnings for Sunday
Weather across Croatia will remain changeable and unstable on Sunday, with showers and thunderstorms expected in several areas. Storms are forecast to be more frequent and intense along the Adriatic and nearby inland regions, where severe weather may bring damaging wind gusts and hail. Strong to gale-force jugo is expected along the coast, with daytime temperatures mostly between 25°C and 30°C.
DHMZ has issued orange thunderstorm warnings for the Rijeka, Knin and Split regions. Locally severe storms may bring gale-force wind gusts, heavy rain and hail, with possible disruption to road and maritime traffic, outdoor activities and ferry services.
Yellow wind warnings are also in force due to strong and locally gale-force jugo, while the Rijeka region additionally faces a risk of 40 to 70 millimetres of rain in a short period.
