With Dubrovnik Airport flights disrupted by strong bura winds on Friday morning, numerous incoming aircraft were diverted or cancelled.
Most aircraft were diverted or their flights were cancelled because powerful gusts made it unsafe for pilots to land at Ruđer Bošković Airport.

By 10 a.m., only three aircraft had managed to land at Čilipi, arriving from Oslo, Helsinki and Brussels. Most of the others attempted to land but were diverted to airports in Italy, Montenegro and Serbia after unsuccessful approaches.
“The wind is causing us major problems this morning. Because of the strong bura gusts, aircraft simply cannot land,” Ruđer Bošković Airport spokeswoman Marina Ruso told Dnevnik.hr.
According to the current forecast, the wind is expected to ease during the day, and the airport hopes that traffic will gradually return to normal in the afternoon.
Restrictions also in place on roads
The bura is also causing difficulties on the roads. The Croatian Automobile Club has warned of restrictions for certain categories of vehicles on sections of coastal roads.
Between Senj and Sveta Marija Magdalena, motorcycles, vehicles with trailers and double-decker buses are banned. Due to strong winds, the Dr Franjo Tuđman Bridge in Dubrovnik is open only to passenger cars.
Traffic is heavy on the main routes towards the coast and inland, so delays and queues are possible. Drivers are advised to adjust their speed to road conditions and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
Two catamaran services also suspended
Due to adverse weather conditions, the Kraljevica-Crikvenica-Senj-Baška-Lopar-Rab-Lun catamaran service has been suspended, Jadrolinija reported.
The departure on the Split- Bol-Hvar-Vis-Hvar-Split catamaran route, scheduled to leave Split at 3:30 p.m., has also been cancelled.
