Petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged after government intervention

Petrol and diesel prices in Croatia remain unchanged under the latest government regulation, despite a significant rise in oil and petroleum product prices on global markets.
Without additional intervention, petrol would have increased by €0.06 per litre and diesel by €0.14 per litre. The government instead reduced fuel duties and temporarily lowered the permitted retailer premium for another seven-day period.
Current fuel prices in Croatia
The regulated maximum retail prices are:
- Petrol: €1.67 per litre, unchanged
- Diesel: €1.79 per litre, unchanged
- Blue diesel: €1.34 per litre, an increase of €0.13
- LPG for tanks: €1.33 per kilogram, an increase of €0.08
- LPG in cylinders: €1.90 per kilogram, an increase of €0.07
The new prices took effect on September 8 and will remain valid for seven days.
Government introduces additional measures
The excise duty on petrol was reduced by €0.025 per litre. Diesel duty was lowered by an additional €0.09 per litre after Croatia received approval from the European Commission to temporarily reduce it below the minimum level established by EU rules.
The permitted retailer premium for petrol and diesel was also reduced by €0.02 per litre for seven days.
The government estimates that without its price controls and reduced duties, petrol would cost €1.88 per litre and diesel €2.10 per litre. Blue diesel would cost €1.44 per litre, while LPG would reach €1.44 per kilogram for tanks and €2.14 per kilogram for cylinders.
Fuel prices in Croatia change from September 2

New regulated fuel prices took effect in Croatia on September 2. Diesel recorded the largest reduction, falling by €0.07 per litre, while petrol increased slightly.
The maximum retail prices are:
- Petrol: €1.67/litre, up €0.01
- Diesel: €1.79/litre, down €0.07
- Blue diesel: €1.21/litre, down €0.11
- LPG for tanks: €1.25/kg, down €0.02
- LPG in cylinders: €1.83/kg, down €0.02
The government increased the permitted diesel premium by €0.01 per litre and the excise duty on diesel by €0.02 per litre. Reduced excise duties remain in place for the other regulated fuels.
These prices will apply until September 7. The government estimates that without its pricing measures, petrol would cost €1.82 per litre and diesel €1.97 per litre.
Fuel prices in Croatia rise from August 25

New regulated fuel prices will take effect in Croatia on Tuesday, August 25, following a decision by the Croatian government. Petrol, diesel and LPG prices will all increase compared with the previous seven-day period.
From August 25, the maximum retail prices will be:
- Petrol: €1.66/litre, up €0.03
- Diesel: €1.86/litre, up €0.06
- Blue diesel: €1.32/litre, up €0.05
- LPG for tanks: €1.27/kg, up €0.03
- LPG in cylinders: €1.85/kg, up €0.04
The government has kept fuel premiums and excise duties unchanged. The new regulated prices will apply for the next seven-day period.
New fuel prices in Croatia from August 18

The Croatian government has announced new fuel prices in Croatia that will take effect on Tuesday, August 18, following a government session held on Monday.
The regulated price of standard petrol will rise to €1.63 per litre, an increase of €0.07 compared with the previous seven-day period. Standard diesel will increase by €0.09 to €1.80 per litre.
The new maximum retail prices are:
- Petrol: €1.63/litre, up €0.07
- Diesel: €1.80/litre, up €0.09
- Blue diesel: €1.27/litre, up €0.09
- LPG for tanks: €1.24/kg, up €0.04
- LPG in cylinders: €1.81/kg, up €0.03
The prices will apply for the next seven-day period.
Government continues to regulate fuel prices
The government has maintained excise duties at the same level as during the previous seven-day period. Compared with pre-crisis levels, excise duty remains reduced by €0.09 per litre for unleaded petrol and €0.07 per litre for diesel.
At the same time, permitted premiums have been reduced by €0.01 per litre for diesel and €0.02 per litre for blue diesel.
Under the latest regulation, maximum retail prices are calculated using the base price of fossil fuels during the previous seven-day period. The permitted premium is set at €0.1435 per litre for petrol, €0.1045 for diesel and €0.0236 for blue diesel. For LPG, the permitted premium is €0.9037 per kilogram for cylinders and €0.4416 per kilogram for large tanks.
What fuel would cost without government measures
The government estimates that without its price-control measures, and with retail prices calculated using energy companies’ premiums and excise duties from before the first regulations were introduced, prices would currently be considerably higher.
Petrol would cost €1.78 per litre, while diesel would reach €2.01 per litre. Blue diesel would cost €1.36 per litre, LPG for tanks €1.35 per kilogram and LPG in cylinders €2.05 per kilogram.
The latest new fuel prices in Croatia take effect on August 18 and remain in force for seven days.
